Nurdles/plastic pellets

Plastic pellets, also known as nurdles, are small plastic beads that are used as the basis to make nearly all of our plastic products. These nurdles are easily transported and melted to create different types of products. However, they can create a huge environmental problem if they are lost at sea during shipping, perhaps because of a storm. This famously happened in Hong Kong in 2012 during a powerful typoon, where 150 tons of plastic pellets were spilled overboard. The clean-up from this spill is still on-going.
